More than 30 percent urban population is EWS and denied of basic amenities and issues are becoming more and more complex with the uncontrolled organic growth of the cities and unplanned migration. It is virtually impossible to have one size fit all with a top down approach to solve local urban issues.
Further, there has been scant compliance of the 74th Constitutional Amendment Act and hence, there is an urgent need to identify, incubate, simulate, pilot and execute cost effective and scalable local solutions adaptable to Indian context, moreover these solutions should emerge through a participative process to be acceptable by the local citizenry.
There is need for the industry, academia and the government to create centers of excellence across India to support such initiatives and augment the mission mode schemes of the Govt. like Housing for All, 500 developed cities and 100 smart cities.
